DIAZEPAM DESCRIPTION

Diazepam is more popularly known as Valium. Diazepam’s main function is to help manage anxiety disorders. However, doctors prescribe Diazepam for the treatment of agitation, shaking, and different kinds of hallucination during drug dependence withdrawal or alcohol withdrawal. It is also used as a pain reliever for muscle pains. While it is not necessarily a pain killer, doctors usually prescribe valium for different kinds of treatment.

Diazepam is part of a group of drugs called benzodiazepine. Diazepam slows down the movement of the different chemicals in the brain. This causes the brain to relax and recharge while preventing nervous tension, muscle pains, and muscle spasms. Diazepam is also a common sedative.

Precautions to be taken

While Diazepam is an effective sensitive, different people can develop certain allergic reactions to Diazepam. If you are allergic to any components of the drug, it is better to tell your doctor to prevent serious implication. Conditions that are intolerant to Diazepam are acute narrow-angle glaucoma, liver disorder, kidney problems, or psychiatric disorders. Meanwhile drugs that interact with Diazepam and might cause harmful effects to you are HIV protease inhibitors or sodium oxybate. It is important to tell your doctor about your medical history so that he can assess you readiness to take the drug.

Doctors usually have a checklist of things that the patient should be cleared before he is allowed to take the drug. For pregnant women, Diazepam causes severe damages to the mother and the baby. The doctor will not advise you to take the drug during this state. The doctor also checks if you take in other prescription drugs that might affect the effective use of Diazepam in your body. Likewise, the doctor should know if you have certain allergies to medicine, food or other substances that you likely take in.

Different medicines can interact with Diazepam. Hydantoins, and rifampin can decrease the effectiveness of Diazepam. Clozapine, disulfiram, HIV inhibitors, and narcotic relievers can seriously give the patient increased sedation
that can lead to confusion.

Side Effects

Using Diazepam may lead to different side effects. These include drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. These effects are normal for sedatives. However, if you mix diazepam with alcohol, it may lead to you to increased sedation and decreased reaction times. For starters, it is not advisable to drive or to apply certain physical activities when you are sedated. Diazepam is also used for treating seizures. In case of a seizure attack always carry an ID so that those
who are around you in the event of an attack will know what to do.
